Historique :	Ce devant d'autel fait partie d'un ensemble composé également d'une chasuble et d'une reliure d'évangéliaire ; à sa mort, Joachim Trotti de la Chetardie, curé de Saint-Sulpice à Paris et confesseur de madame de Maintenon, céda en faveur de l'église et de la paroisse d'Exideuil des vases sacrés, un devant d'autel, des vêtements sacerdotaux brodés et tissés au petit point ; la famille la Chetardie avait Exideuil comme fief sous l'Ancien Régime.
